Overview
Telecommunications carriers face a major challenge to support continued growth in bandwidth demand throughout the network without a cost explosion. Ofidium’s unique optical OFDM technology solves this challenge with 100 Gigabits per second transmission over existing telecommunications infrastructure.
To use a musical analogy, conventional systems transmit data as a rapid series of short ‘notes.’ Over long transmission distances, optical fiber dispersion ‘smears’ adjacent notes into one another. Dispersion management in these systems is complicated and expensive at 40 Gbit/s, and will be more so at 100 Gbit/s.

Ofidium’s optical OFDM technology solves this by transmitting entire ‘chords’ of data (not just individual notes). This unique transmission method is extremely robust to dispersion impairments over long transmission distances. The result is simpler system deployment and dramatically lower total system cost for telecommunications carriers.

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technology is widely used in a range of other applications, but Ofidium is the leader in applying OFDM to optical data transmission for telecommunications. Ofidium’s optical OFDM transceiver modules for dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) systems transform the way telecommunications carriers transmit data over optical fiber networks.
